Iowa may never truly replace Caitlin Clark, but the Hawkeyes have landed a new transfer that will surely go a long way in making up for the phenom’s scoring punch.

Lucy Olsen, who was the nation’s third-leading scorer last season, announced on Wednesday that she was transferring from Villanova.

‘New beginnings,’ she wrote on X above a photo of her in a Hawkeyes uniform.

Olsen averaged 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the Wildcats in the 2023-24 season.

Her furthest NCAA Tournament run came during her sophomore year, when she and her team made the Sweet 16.

Iowa, meanwhile, made consecutive national championships behind Clark’s incredible play – but perhaps expectations for the program will now shift with the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer out of town.

Clark was a two-time National Women’s Player of the Year, and averaged an astonishing 28.4 points per game over four seasons, peaking at 31.6 this year.

She was selected with the No. 1 overall pick of the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever on Monday.

But it’s not just Clark that has departed Iowa.

Teammate Kate Martin was selected No. 18 overall by the Las Vegas Aces, while fellow Hawkeyes guards Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis have also graduated.

On Wednesday, as Clark did an introductory press conference with the Fever, she was involved in an awkward exchange with columnist Gregg Doyel.

Doyel imitated the former Iowa star’s heart-hands gesture before saying: ‘Start doing it to me and we’ll get along just fine.
