This Morning star Tom Swarbrick has pleaded with viewers live on air for help, after his wife was spat at by a “disgusting” driver while parked on a country road in Kent.

The star revealed that his wife was in the car with their daughter when she parked so that another car could pass her. When the driver pulled up beside her, motioned for her to roll her window down and spat on her.

Tom said: “My wife was driving out daughter through a narrow rural lane in Kent and as she stopped to allow another driver to come through, a driver pulled up alongside her, told her to wind her window down and just gave her a volley of expletives, every effing and jeffing under the sun and then hocked up phlegm and spat it into her face.”

He added that his daughter, who is only 8-years-old, was “in pieces” in the back of the car and “terrified” of what was happening. Tom said he wanted the driver to “feel the fear he inspired in her”.

The presenter spoke about the incident on his LBC show, after which a woman who witness what happened came forward. “I mentioned it on my LBC show and a woman got in touch, apparently she was in the car behind him,” Tom explained.

He continued to praise the police for their help: “And she was incredibly helpful to the police and I have to say the Kent police have been very helpful.”

He added that Kent Police “have asked that anyone who has any information, please come to them”. Tom was very clear that he wanted the driver to face consequences, and said he didn’t think this would have happened to man.

“I don’t think this would happen had I been driving the car or if Ben [Shephard] had been driving a car. This happened because this was a woman on her own.”

He said that it was “unacceptable” that someone would do this to another person, simply because they are a woman. “It is absolutely unacceptable that someone would do this to a woman because they are a woman.”

He was supported by the two presenters, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, as well as Kay Burley who was also on the show. Kay was horrified by the situation and said: “What is wrong with you, you absolute animal?”
