Primary school teaching assistant Alex Mitchell delighted judge Simon Cowell, 64, and his co-stars with his audition on Saturday’s Britain’s Got Talent.

His audition saw him poke fun at his love life and dates as well as seeing him embrace his ticks, which began six months after he started performing.

Alex appeared on Monday’s Good Morning Britain to chat about his routine and his busy summer schedule.

Talking to entertainment reporter Richard Arnold, he said: “Yes this year is mad.

“This year is insane.

“BGT and then I’m going to the Edinburgh Festival for the first time this summer with my show Tics Towards Puffection.

“The name came first – before the script.

“It’s my constant desire to want to be perfect and all the reasons why that’s OK.”

Emotional audition

BGT viewers this weekend watched Alex break down in tears after auditioning alone.

This was because he had told his family he was on a stag doo instead.

When he finished his routine , the audience gave him a standing ovation, prompting him to burst into tears.

As he sobbed into his hands Ant and Dec said: “Look what it means to him.”

Judge Amanda Holden started the feedback, and told him: “Honestly I didn’t stop laughing from start to finish, that was an amazing set.”

Bruno Tonioli then added: “Your writing is brilliant, you are a great comedian.”

Mis-teeq songstress Alesha Dixon then told him: “You were worth the wait, well done.”

Simon Cowell then rounded it off by saying: “I think a great comedian is fearless and funny, you are both,” before calling Alex’s mum to let her know the good news.

As Simon spoke to Alex’s mum, she said: “I can’t believe it, that’s fabulous, I am so pleased and so proud, I want to give you the biggest hug ever.”
